Starting July 1, 2026, Medicare's new GLP-1 Bridge program covers certain GLP-1 medications when prescribed for weight management. Here's what you need to know — and how to find out if you qualify.

Who Is NOT Eligible?

GLP-1 Bridge does not apply to you if:

• You have type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea, or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). GLP-1 coverage for these conditions goes through your Medicare Part D plan instead.
• You have already received a GLP-1 medication through your Part D plan. Continue working with your Part D plan for coverage.

Who Is Eligible?

You may qualify for GLP-1 Bridge coverage if all of the following apply:

• You have Medicare Part D coverage.
  • Most people with Part D are eligible.
  • Exceptions: people enrolled in private fee-for-service plans, section 1876 cost contract plans, section 1833 health care prepayment plans, PACE organizations, fallback plans, or religious fraternal benefit plans aren't eligible — unless they're also enrolled in a standalone prescription drug plan (PDP).
• You are at least 18 years old.
• The medication is being prescribed to reduce excess body weight and maintain weight reduction — not for another condition.
• Your BMI qualifies.
  • At least one of these must be true when you start the medication:
    • A body mass index (BMI) of 35 or higher, or
    • A BMI of 30 or higher plus heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, high blood pressure that stays above 140/90 despite treatment with two blood pressure medications, or chronic kidney disease (stage 3a or above), or
    • A BMI of 27 or higher plus pre-diabetes, a previous heart attack or stroke, or symptomatic peripheral artery disease

Which Medications Are Covered?

• Foundayo® (tablets)
• Wegovy® (injection and tablets)
• Zepbound® (KwikPen® only)

Note: The single-dose Zepbound® pen and Zepbound® vials are NOT covered.
